G.P.S. is an acronym for Global Positioning System. It is a military derived technology that has found its way into civilian consumer electronics, and most notably the automobile industry. GPS uses geo-synchronic satellites, longitude, and latitude to triangulate the exact location of an object on the earth’s surface. Simply tell the GPS where you want to go, and it will communicate the best way to get to your destination audibly and visually. It is truly amazing when you think about it. What’s even more amazing is that human beings possess the exact same capability and each of us are born with it. It’s your natural G.P.S.: your Goal Producing System.

You can achieve anything in life in the exact same manner that a global positioning system works for your car. This man-made technology mirrors your God-given ability in the exact same way. It starts with programming your mental computer with a destination. Your conscious mind is the computer and your goals are the destinations!

What are goals?
Webster’s dictionary defines a goal as: “the end result toward which effort is directed.”

Know before you go!
You must know the end result before you start. You must know the exact result you want to achieve before you ever begin the actual labor to make it happen. If you don’t know the end result before you start, then you won’t be able to discern if you efforts are taking you closer or farther away from you goal.

Conceive, Believe, Achieve
If you can conceive a goal in your mind, believe it in your heart, then you can achieve it in reality! This might sound like an oversimplification, but visualization is the trigger to activating your G.P.S. Human beings become what they think about on a constant basis. Professional athletes use visualization all the time. They see themselves winning the game or race long before they actually compete. They conceive the idea that they can win. They then build belief that they can win, which is done through a process of repetition called “practice.” And over time, with hard work, self-discipline, and a commitment to winning, they produce the results they desire.

What Can You Do Today? Use Your GPS!

#1 Set goals – Do you know what you want to have in life? Do you know who you want to be? Decide! Once you take the leap life will give you some answers. God will show the way, but you have to have faith in both God and yourself! Aim for the top! Believe the best about yourself. Program you goal producing system and begin moving toward your destination. Use your G.P.S. program your destination = your goal!

#2 Use your imagination! Walt Disney is most famous for this. The entire Disney Empire began with a simple thought and a mouse. Your imagination is just as powerful! Use it! Most people don’t miss out on life’s gifts because they shoot too high and miss; the majority of people shoot too low, and hit the bulls eye of average or mediocre. Use your imagination and visualize what you want to have, be, or do. Dream BIG! The only limitations you have are self imposed!

#3 Build Your Belief System! Your current beliefs are a result of years of repetition and practice. You were not born with them. You can create and build new beliefs about yourself through the same process. Use written and verbal affirmation to begin reprogramming yourself for success and goal attainment. All professionals start off as amateurs! Are you in training or are you in the stands watching?

Remember…You CAN Make A Difference!™

During recent a presentation a student at a local Dallas high school asked: “What’s the secret to success?” As I thought about his question, a very simple realization came over me. “There aren’’t any”…I said. “There are very specifics steps that one must go through in order to become successful, and those steps have been available to everyone for at least 2000 years.”

Success Leaves Clues

There are no secrets! The best minds in philanthropy, self-help, personal, and business development have shared time tested concepts and theories on high achievement and success. There are numerous examples of people who have overcome obstacles to achieve money, fame, prestige, and comfort, more importantly, these same people have documented their successes and the process that leads to high performance.

There are books, cassette tapes (did I date myself?), CD’s, DVD’s seminars, and classes produced by the most successful people in the history of mankind that can show us, step by step, exactly what to do in order to achieve goals and perform at a high level. This reality demands that we ask better questions, like: “Are you studying and applying their information?”

In his ground breaking book, “Think and Grow Rich”, Napoleon Hill explains that success and high achievement are the products of our thoughts; that we become what we think about, and that money, fame, high achievement, fortune, and success, however you define it, are the direct results of our thoughts. Performing at a high level and producing success then, like mediocrity, is simply a matter of habitually thinking the right way.

The principle of manifestation states: your thoughts determine your feelings, your feelings will determine how you act, and your actions will determine your results! You will reap what you sow! The high levels of mediocrity in contemporary society is a direct reflection of people working very very hard while using the wrong information and thought process. All you have to do is, THINK and DO what successful people do, the way successful people do it, and you can become successful too.

Clearly Define Success For Yourself

It amazes me that so many people do not have a clear definition of what success is for them! Success is like love. No one can tell you what love is, you have to define it for yourself; defining success works the exact same way. Money and material items are always at the top of the list when people talk about success; however, most of us would probably agree that those items are simply pieces of the puzzle. I think real holistic success involves balance in the following areas of life: physical health, loving relationships, purpose, inner peace, and financial congruence. I strive to have a balance in all of these things, and so should you.

Take Action: Three (3) Tips to Make It Happen

1. Define success for yourself

What does success really mean to you? What things in life are important to you? How will you know when you become successful?

2. Become a student of success and personal development

Start reading about success theory! The previously mentioned “Think and Grow Rich” is a great book to start your library (so is Straighten Up and Fly Right – Unlocking Your Full Potential by yours truly!) Success leaves clues, but so does mediocrity. If your actions are not leading you to the results you desire…CHANGE your actions!

3. Develop a plan and execute it!

Plan your work, and work your plan. Your plan won’t work unless you do! You will reap what you sow, so, sow the right seeds. Get a mentor and get to work!
Remember…You CAN Make A Difference™
To Your Success,
David

Facebook is probably the best tool for reconnecting with old co-workers and associates from our past. I say associates, because I don’t use the word friend loosely. This is a very subjective topic, but for me, some of the things friendship requires is: love, trust, investment of time, and shared principles.

Friendship is not a stagnant state. It is a living breathing thing that must be nurtured and cared for or it will wither and die. Unfortunately, many people think that just because you have known someone for a long time history alone is sufficient; it simply is not.

One of the major issues holding me back from achieving at a higher level is that I have surrounded myself with people who are not forward thinking. People who are not goal setters and striving to improve. People who frequently talk about “back in the day” like there is nothing more to experience. I think going down memory lane is great, but not to revisit the same old memories every time we get together. I want experience life to the fullest and to create new memories that we can look back on and use as a springboard for the next adventure! Check out our latest adventure below…

Michele and I would love to have our friends and family share in these kinds of experiences, but our friends and family have to value these thing for themselves. We can’t make them do anything, but we can let them deal with the consequences of the decisions they make. So can you.

Indeed, birds of a feather flock together! So if you’re surrounded by people who constantly look backward, instead of looking forward, who don’t share your principles or values, who don’t invest in you and your relationship…you might need to make some changes and get some new “friends”.

What do you think?
